Faces of New York: Urban Portraits
New York City is a melting pot of stories, and I wanted to capture its faces. From the bustling streets of Brooklyn to the towering skyline of Manhattan, I photographed locals in their element: street vendors, subway commuters, and dreamers gazing at the horizon. Each portrait tells a story of resilience and diversity, with the cityโs gritty energy as the perfect backdrop. I used natural light to highlight their expressions, letting the urban landscape frame their humanity. This trip was a deep dive into the art of portraiture.
I started my day in Brooklyn, where the morning light softened the cityโs rough edges. I approached a street vendor selling flowers, his weathered hands and warm smile telling a story of hard work and kindness. In the subway, I captured a commuter lost in thought, the neon lights reflecting in her eyes. Near the Brooklyn Bridge, I photographed a young artist sketching the skyline, her focus a stark contrast to the chaos around her. I used a 50mm lens to create a natural perspective, keeping the depth of field shallow to emphasize my subjects. New Yorkโs diversity and energy pushed me to experiment with framing and composition, resulting in a series of portraits that feel both intimate and expansive.
